ACRYLNITRIL-BUTADIEN-STYROL FIRE RETARDANT

FR stands for Fire Resistant and this 3D printing filament is a further development of the high-quality, amorphous, thermoplastic ABS. ABS-FR is not only a fire-retardant but a flame-retardant filament that is used wherever “working” with sparks or where fire regulations have to be observed.

This means that not only prototypes but also 100% functional parts can be produced for this harsh environment. ABS-FR is the right choice for use in special engineering or aircraft constructions, but also for housings for transformers, switches, air conditioning systems and electronic components. Even in architectures, ABS-FR is used to manufacture brackets for instant to meet fire regulations.

Processing parameters:

Extrusion temperature:220 – 260 °C
Print bed temperature:90 °C – 100 °C
Print bed material:Kapton foil
Pre-dry:80°C / 2 – 4 h

ABS-FR is an enhanced version of ABS. Additives were added to the plastic to achieve a flame-retardant effect.

Because these additives only make up a small proportion of the material, the same filament characteristics apply as for 3D printing of ABS. A closed build tray with an automatic temperature regulation is necessary to avoid tension cracks due to warping and to achieve consistent results.

An small amount of the additives, added to the plastic is released into the air when 3D printing ABS-FR. These not only smell very pungent, but are also harmful to health. Therefore ABS-FR, even when using a filter, should only be processed in industrial environments with appropriate personal protective equipment.

Post-Processing

A wide range of post-processing methods are available for ABS. This plastic can be welded, glued, machined and screwed with an inset or directly.

Since ABS adheres well to HIPS, support structure can be created by 2-component printing, which can be dissolved by lime detergent after the printing process. By this 2-component print, interior cavities and recesses in the manufactured parts can also be realized.

Solubility / resistance

ABS-FR is resistant to diluted acids, diluted alkalis and oils and can be dissolved in esters and ketones (especially acetone).

Applications

In general is the operating temperature of ABS in between -20 and 95 ° C.
